In this short course, three very different instructors will explore together how our brains construct beauty out of the tightly constructed artforms we call poetry.
5 Tuesdays, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m
The U.S. is currently in a period of sharp political polarization over what students should learn about past and present racial discrimination in the U.S.
6 Tuesdays, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m
This course will trace the development of Broadway’s greatest musicals from the 1920s through the 1960s. We will look at some major musicals, discuss composers and lyricists, delve into their historical backgrounds, and listen to some of the delightful and memorable songs from each show.
6 Wednesdays from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m
In this course we will read and discuss great poets in the English tradition who will help us see and feel the world more fully. The poets we will encounter: John Milton, John Keats, Gerard Manley Hopkins, Emily Dickinson, Elizabeth Bishop, and Gwendolyn Brooks. No literary background necessary.
