How much does SOAP cost? If you applied to any programs during the Main Residency Match Season, SOAP applications do not cost any additional fees. If you did not apply to any programs previous to SOAP, you will be expected to pay a $99 fee to ERAS. When can I apply to programs?
Why are there unfilled residency positions?
Off-cycle residency openings are usually due to residents resigning, changing specialties, being terminated, incoming residents not starting because of visa or medical issues, program expansions, new programs coming into existence, or programs not filling their spots. These vacancies occur throughout the year.

In total, 1,773 positions were filled through SOAP. Of those positions, U.S. allopathic seniors accepted about half of them, osteopathic medical school seniors accepted 27%, and IMGs as a group accepted 18%.

To familiarize applicants with the SOAP schedule and process, the AAMC Electronic Residency Application Service® (ERAS®) and the NRMP are hosting a joint webinar on Thursday, March 10 at 1 p.m. ET. ERAS and NRMP will provide an overview of the SOAP process and information on the following:
ERAS Fees During SOAP
Applicants who have applied to at least one residency program (for ERAS 2022 season) by Monday, March 14 at 6:30 a.m. ET will not pay any application fees during SOAP. Prior years' applications are not counted toward the current application season. For information about non-SOAP fees, please visit Fees for Residency Applications .

ERAS will continue to offer the flat fee program when 2022 SOAP concludes.

During SOAP, you will be able to apply to a total of 45 Match participating programs between Monday, March 14 at 10 a.m. ET and Thursday, March 17 at 9 p.m. ET. You may reapply to programs you applied to during the ERAS 2022 season as well as apply to new programs.
