Standard MTG Sets 2022

As it stands, we've only got four proper Standard MTG sets in 2022 instead of last year's five. However, we're actually kicking off the year with a set that is technically Standard-legal, even though it contains no new cards. Rather than pontificating about it all, let's just get stuck in.

Other MTG releases 2022

Now we're moving outside of Standard into, well, everything else. It's going to be a bumper year for these extra sets and products, and there'll undoubtedly be some that haven't been announced yet such as Secret Lairs (both Street Fighter and Fortnite are already planned for 2022) and digital-only releases.

Dominaria Remastered – January 13 2023

A celebration of cards from MTG’s past and present, Dominaria Remastered is a product that’s full of reprints from multiple sets, much like the similarly named Time Spiral Remastered. Where Dominaria Remastered stands out though, is in the sheer number of sets it incorporates.

Phyrexia: All Will Be One – Q1 2023

The first premier MTG set release of 2023, coming in the first quarter of the year, is Phyrexia: All Will Be One, continuing the Phyrexian plotline on from The Brothers’ War.

March of the Machine – Q2 2023

March of the Machine is the second premier set, coming in Spring 2023. (Hopefully it comes out in March, for the puns.) It looks like this set will be a climactic final showdown with the Phyrexians, and we know it’s the conclusion to the four-set Phyrexian plot arc, so let’s hope this is when the heroes win the day

March of the Machine: Aftermath – Q2 2023

Now this is something strange. Apparently also releasing in Q2 2023 is the MTG set March of the Machine: Aftermath. We’re not quite sure what form this set will take, but Wizards tells us it’ll “tie up loose ends from March of the Machine and explore the fundamental changes that have taken place in Magic’s Multiverse.”

Wilds of Eldraine – Q3 2023

Once the Phyrexian story is done and dusted, we’re hopping over to the plane of Eldraine, in Autumn 2023, for a premier set called Wilds of Eldraine. Expect witches, whimsy, and fairy-tale fun.

Universes Beyond MTG Lord of The Rings – Q3 2023

Stepping away from the Magic multiverse into Universes Beyond, we’ve got the MTG Lord of the Rings crossover set named Tales of Middle Earth. Scheduled for Q3 2023, this set follows the story we all know from the main trilogy, showing Frodo’s journey to destroy the One Ring, along with a few battles and balrogs along the way.

The Lost Caverns of Ixalan – Q4 2023

In the final main set release we now know about, in 2023 Q4, we go back to Ixalan, a plane with some absolutely fabulous flavour, thanks to its colourful and well-defined factions of merfolk, dinosaurs, pirates, and vampire conquistadors.
