What happened to the Highlands Playhouse?

With a little elbow grease, and a lot of faith, the resident theatre company at the Highlands Playhouse recovered to maintain our mission to Engage, Enrich, and Entertain the community and visitors of Western North Carolina. Back in the Spring of 2021, I promised that a new era for our 83 year old theatre company was just on the horizon.

What is Highlands Playhouse doing to limit seating capacity?

Highlands Playhouse has taken the preemptive step to limit seating capacity to 75% for current performances. The Playhouse has also increased access to hand sanitizer, our staff and volunteers are vaccinated and masked, and we have placed our will call table on our spacious patio for the convenience of our patrons.

What is our 2022 mainstage season all about?

Our new name, and our 2022 Mainstage Season, focuses on that exact sentiment. The mountains are where we escape and embrace the wonders of nature. The theatre is where we escape and embrace the gifts and stories told by passionate artists.

A WORD FROM OUR EXECUTIVE ARTISTIC DIRECTOR

What a difference a year makes! When I joined the Playhouse organization a year ago, we were rising from the ashes, both literally and figuratively. A fire in the scene shop in 2019 was closely followed by the shuttering of performance venues and entertainment/theatre companies around the world due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
